Training For Trainers Programme

Human Rights Awareness Training for the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission’s Bill of Rights Consultation

The Commission has completed its first Facilitator Training Programme for the Bill of Rights consultation process in January 2001. 400 people from a wide range of backgrounds have been trained throughout Northern Ireland. These facilitators have carried out consultation activity in many local areas on the proposals for a Bill of Rights and many people contributed responses to the first stage of the Commission's consultation on the draft Bill of Rights, see below.

New Programme

The Commission commenced its new training programme on 4th September 2001. It is running the training programme in areas identified through monitoring of its previous programme. In some areas it was noted that people had not availed sufficiently to reflect the Commission's commitment to sector 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 which requires that the Commission in carrying out its functions relating to Northern Ireland must have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity among different groups.

The following is a list of areas where the Commission plans to run training events in the next few months. Confirmed dates have been noted and these will be updated regularly.
